Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 292 (July 13, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal [then Private] Harold E. Reid (ASN: US-55030389), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 15 March 1951, in the vicinity of Ami-dong, Korea. When his platoon was pinned down by heavy enemy machine gun fire during an attack, Corporal Reid, with complete disregard for his own safety, boldly charged the enemy machine gun position with hand grenades, destroying it and permitting the platoon to advance. His heroic action prevented many casualties among his comrades in the platoon. The gallantry displayed by Corporal Reid reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
