The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Fred Marshall Ramos (ASN: 0-60981), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 12 September 1950 in the vicinity of Am-Sin, Korea. On this date while serving as a rifle platoon leader, Lieutenant Ramos was assigned the mission of attacking and annihilating a pocket of approximately 100 enemies who had infiltrated to our rear area. Despite the enemy’s superiority in numbers and weapons and their intense grenade and small arms fire, he repeatedly exposed himself to personally direct fire on enemy strong points. Through his obvious unconcern for personal safety and his daring and aggressive leadership, the enemy force was completely destroyed. The gallantry and inspired leadership displayed by Lieutenant Ramos on this occasion reflect great credit on himself and are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
