The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Captain (Infantry) Edmund David Poston (ASN: 0-27775), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Commanding Officer of Company A, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 15 March 1951 in the vicinity of Yulsil-li, Korea. Company A’s objective on that date was to seize Hill 719. As the lead platoon advanced to the lower slopes of the hill, the enemy holding the high ground brought it under intense fire. Captain Poston unhesitatingly left his position in the rear of the company and made a reconnaissance of the situation. Leading another one of his platoons in a flanking movement he successfully drove the enemy from their positions. After securing a ridge leading to the objective, Captain Poston moved with the lead platoon, encouraging the men to greater effort, and engaged the enemy in a fierce firefight which resulted in many casualties to the enemy. His fearlessness and courage under the heavy enemy fire were determining factors in routing the enemy and seizing the objective. The gallantry displayed by Captain Poston reflect the highest credit upon himself are in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
