Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 313 (September 12, 1952)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Clarence H. Mogee (ASN: US-53062755), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 1 August 1952 in the vicinity of Chorwon, Korea. On that date Private McGee’s unit was attacking heavily fortified hostile emplacements on Hill 266, commonly known as “Old Baldy”. In the ensuing battle, the friendly units approaching movements were slowed by hostile machine gun and mortar fire. Private McGee, realizing the hazardous situation, volunteered to take an advanced position from which more effective fire could be directed upon the enemy. Securing his machine gun, Private McGee crawled twenty yards across the fire swept area and set up the weapon. While under complete enemy observation, mortar and small arms fire, Private McGee laid down a devastating line of fire which drove the enemy to cover and enabled his unit to advance and take their objective. Private McGee’s outstanding display of valor set an inspiring example for his comrades and reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
