The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Nathaniel McWee (ASN: 0-378613), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3d Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. In Kunu-ri, Korea, 1 December 1950, Captain McWee went to the aid of the Battalion Commander and his party when they were suddenly attacked by three enemy submachine gunners. When his rifle failed to function, he used the weapon as a club, dispatched one of the enemy and drove the other two into an adjacent building. Although completely exposed to their fire, he immediately followed in pursuit and eliminated both as they attempted to escape. Captain McWee’s valorous actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
