The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Jack A. Maison (ASN: US-56071466), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company B, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 1 September 1951 in the vicinity of Mandae-ri, Korea. On this date during an attack on an enemy-held hill, Private Maison’s platoon was subjected to intense enemy fire resulting in all members of his machine gun crew being casualties. In spite of this fact, Private Maison, with his machine gun, remained in position and employed covering fire while his platoon withdrew to better positions. After they had withdrawn, he carried his machine gun and rejoined his unit. Upon reaching the new position, Private Maison, immediately set up his weapon and inflicted numerous enemy casualties, enabling his unit to successfully secure its objective. The gallantry in action displayed by Private Maison reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
