The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal [then Private First Class] Dominick Livaccari (ASN: US-51065139), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 3 September 1951 in the vicinity of Mandeau-san, Korea. On this date during an assault upon heavily fortified enemy positions, Corporal Livaccari was serving in the capacity of ammunition bearer for a machine gun squad. On many occasions he completely exposed himself to the intense hostile small arms, automatic weapons, and mortar fire while supplying his unit with the necessary ammunition. On one of these trips he noticed that the machine gunner had been seriously wounded and that the weapon was out of action. Unhesitatingly he secured the weapon and commenced firing upon the enemy. By his accurate supporting fire, numerous casualties were inflicted upon the enemy, thus enabling friendly forces to secure their objective with a minimum of casualties. The gallantry in action and devotion to duty displayed by Corporal Livaccari on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
