The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fourth Grade [then Private] Paul Liebeskind, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 9th Medical Battalion, on 1 May 1943, in the Mateur-Bizerte Sector, Tunisia. Private Liebeskind volunteered to go through an uncharted, heavily mined, and booby-trapped field to locate and help evacuate two soldiers wounded by anti-personnel mines. His bravery and devotion to duty were an inspiration to his comrades.
