The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant [then Sergeant] Thomas H. Lamey (ASN: US-52074291), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters, 2d Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 10 August 1951 in the vicinity of Changga-hyon, Korea. On this date friendly elements were clearing a path through an enemy mine field to facilitate the attack of a combat patrol upon hostile emplacements. As the leading elements advanced in the assault, they were met with intense hostile automatic weapons and small arms fire, which wounded a friendly soldier and he fell helpless in an un-cleared portion of the mine field. Sergeant Lamey, a squad leader, unhesitatingly advanced to assist the severely wounded man. With complete disregard for his own safety, he entered the un-cleared mine field and, while under hostile observation and fire, carried his comrade to safety. His courageous action was an inspiration to all who observed him and undoubtedly saved the life of his comrade. The gallantry in action and genuine devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Lamey on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
