Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 5 (January 4, 1952)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal David Lamb (ASN: RA-11210385), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 10 October 1951 in the vicinity of Satae-ri, Korea. On that date Corporal Lamb, serving in the capacity of a platoon leader, was with a unit which had the mission to assault and secure a key terrain feature held by a determined hostile force. In the ensuing action friendly elements’ advance was seriously impaired by devastating fire from well fortified enemy positions. Corporal Lamb, without hesitating, ordered his men to provide support fire as he single-handedly assaulted the overwhelming foe. In the face of certain death he crawled forward through the intense hostile fire directed at him and, from a commanding site, employed a heavy concentration of carbine fire on the enemy. His men inspired by this act of bravery, fearlessly resumed the attack. In the course of this action, Corporal Lamb was painfully wounded but refused to be evacuated and continued directing his men until the objective was secured. His dogged determination and dauntless courage were directly responsible for the success of his unit in this engagement. The gallantry in action displayed by Corporal Lamb reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
