Headquarters, 25th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 32 (January 18, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Francis J. Krause (ASN: RA-42162465), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company E, 2d Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 4 September 1950, near Chirwon, Korea, the company with which Corporal Krause was serving as a mortar gunner was forced to displace to a more tenable position. Despite the intense hostile fire concentrated in the area, he remained in an exposed position from which he could deliver more effective fire. Although painfully wounded in one hand, he declined medical attention and continued to serve his weapon with the other hand until he was mortally wounded. Corporal Krause’s indomitable courage, grim determination, and unflagging devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
