The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Leon P. Justin (ASN: RA-42195537), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 26 July 1951 in the vicinity of Taeusan, Korea. On that date, while Company C was attacking well fortified enemy positions, the unit was confronted by large enemy bunkers. Corporal Justin, with utter disregard for his own safety, advanced toward the enemy bunkers, throwing hand grenades and inflicting numerous casualties upon the enemy. During the ensuing action, Corporal Justin was fatally wounded by enemy fire, but his courageous actions were an inspiration to the entire unit and materially aided in the success of the unit’s mission. The gallantry and devotion to duty and comrades demonstrated by Corporal Justin on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
