The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Linus M. Juneau (ASN: 0-1302979), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 29 May 1951, near Inje, Korea. On that date he was platoon leader of an infantry platoon which had the mission of attacking a large enemy force which was well-entrenched on a hill overlooking the main supply route. As the platoon advanced toward its objective it was subjected to intense enemy small arms and hand grenade fire, which pinned it down and seriously threatened the success of the unit’s mission. In spite of the intense enemy fire, Lieutenant Juneau rushed to the foremost element of his unit, encouraging his men and rallying them to continue the attack. His courageous action and outstanding leadership contributed materially to the successful capture of this vital sector of high ground, and was an inspiration to all his men. The gallantry displayed by Lieutenant Juneau reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
