Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 755 (November 24, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Kenneth Wayne Hobbs (ASN: NG-25326154), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 12 October 1951 in the vicinity of Mundung-ni, Korea. On that date, during an attack on heavily defended enemy positions, Company A was pinned down by an intense concentration of hostile machine gun fire. Friendly artillery and mortar fire was called in, but with little success. Private Hobbs, realizing the seriousness of the situation and with complete disregard for his own safety, assaulted the hostile position which was obstructing the advance of his unit. Maneuvering his way over the hazardous terrain amid a hail of enemy machine gun fire he commenced firing with great effect. He was painfully wounded when within a few feet of the bunker but continued firing, killing all the occupants before he died of his wounds. His dauntless courage and cool behavior before the enemy were an inspiration to the men of his unit and enabled them to continue their assault. The gallantry in action and self-sacrificing devotion to duty displayed by Private Hobbs reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
