    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Captain (Field Artillery) Jonathan Hartwell Harwood, Jr. (ASN: 0-464650), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Commanding Officer of Shore Fire Control Party No. 1, 293d Signal Company, attached to the 2d Ranger Battalion, in action against the enemy at Normandy, France, on 6 June 1944. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Harwood, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
