The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Kenneth E. Hall (ASN: US-56055403), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 9 October 1951 in the vicinity of Sandanggol, Korea. On that date, during an attack on well fortified enemy-held positions on Hill 1005, Company G was relieved as the leading element in the advance by another rifle company. Corporal Hall, in the face of a heavy hostile mortar and small-arms fire, voluntarily moved his machine-gun from its sheltered position forward to the leading elements of the relieving company. From this point he employed a heavy volume of fire upon the hostile forces, inflicting numerous casualties upon them. During the ensuing action, Corporal Hall was painfully wounded by flying shrapnel, but refusing to leave his precarious position for medical treatment, he continued his merciless firing until the enemy forces were completely routed from their positions. Corporal Hall’s courageous and selfless actions aided immeasurably to the success of his unit in this engagement. The gallantry in action displayed by Corporal Hall reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
