Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 74 (January 30, 1952)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Glenn R. Hall (ASN: US-52057230), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 26 July 1951 in the vicinity of Yanggu, Korea. On this date Company C had the mission of assaulting and securing strategic positions defended by a determined and well entrenched hostile force. Private Hall was advancing with the leading elements of the unit when they were pinned down by a vehement blaze of enemy automatic weapons fire. Ignoring the deadly hostile fire, Private Hall advanced to a forward position and destroyed the enemy machine gun emplacement. When his unit was ordered to withdraw, he voluntarily and with complete disregard for his own safety, remained behind and fought a gallant rear guard action while his comrades evacuated the wounded and withdrew to more tenable positions. Only after he was certain that all friendly troops had reached the new perimeter did he withdraw. His courageous and selfless actions were an inspiration to all who observed him and as a result of his accurate and intense fire, the enemy suffered numerous casualties. The gallantry in action displayed by Private Hall on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
