The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sous-Lieutenant Louis Guyomard, United States Army, for gallantry in action behind the enemy lines from 7 July 1944 to 26 August 1944. Sous-Lieutenant Guyomard was parachuted into France as a radio operator for a secret intelligence team. While his observer set up a network of informants, he arranged for the transportation of his equipment and then began transmitting intelligence messages for his observer. For reasons of radio security, he endeavored to move his spare set to a new location. He became caught between two German traffic barricades and, knowing what awaited him if he were caught with his equipment, he fled through a woods, abandoning his equipment when the Germans began to fire at him. He returned to the accustomed spot and continued to transmit with his regular set.
