Headquarters, U.S. Forces, European Theater, General Orders No. 46 (March 29, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sous-Lieutenant Alain Guillou, French Army, for gallantry in action behind enemy lines from 24 June 1944 to 8 August 1944. Sous-Lieutenant Guillou landed on the coast of Brittany for the purpose of serving as a secret intelligence agent. Carrying heavy equipment, he traversed an enemy mine field before he reached cover, and later he traveled 160 kilometers with his teammate in order to reach his assigned area. Damage done to his set prevented him from making contact with London until he met another agent and borrowed his set. From then on, until the region was liberated by the allied armies, he transmitted intelligence on enemy movements, identification of enemy defenses, static defenses in the region of Lorient, and the mined waters of the coast.
