Headquarters, 25th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 324 (November 12, 1950)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant James Grant (ASN: RA-33751237), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company M, 3d Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. While manning a forward observation post in the vicinity of Haman, Korea, during daylight hours of 13 September 1950, Sergeant Grant received a report that a large body of enemy was following the withdrawal of a friendly unit which would pass his location. When the unit had cleared his area, he called for and directed effective mortar fire on the enemy until he was painfully wounded by rifle fire and evacuated from the area. Sergeant Grant’s courageous military skill reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Army.
