Headquarters, U.S. Army Forces in the South Pacific Area, General Orders No. 383 (March 13, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Francis B. Folk, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Commanding Officer of Company G, 2d Battalion, 148th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at New Georgia, Solomon Islands, on 31 July 1943 and 1 August 1943. On 31 July 1943, he rescued a wounded soldier from the field of battle without regard for his own safety. On 1 August 1943, he courageously led his forward platoon in a grenade assault which broke through Japanese resistance in that sector. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Folk, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
