Headquarters, 1st Cavalry Division, General Orders No. 74 (August 27, 1950)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Anthony M. Ferentine (ASN: RA-13289688), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters Company, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division (Infantry), near Kumchon, Korea, on 2 August 1950. During the early morning hours the enemy made a determined effort to cut the main Kumchon-Waegan Road. Reinforcements being urgently needed, it became necessary to call drivers and clerical personnel of Headquarters Company to assist in repelling the enemy. Corporal Ferentine, unhesitatingly joined this hastily formed group and went into action. Despite heavy enemy small arms and machine gun fire, Corporal Ferentine continued to advance, covering by his own fire the evacuation of the wounded from the Second Battalion. It was during this action that Corporal Ferentine was killed. His courageous action and devotion to duty reflects the highest credit on himself and the military service.
