The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal [then Private First Class] Holly H. Felts (ASN: US-54006616), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company H, (then attached to Company E), 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 16 September 1951 in the vicinity of Satae-ri, Korea. On that date during an attack on strategic hostile positions, Company E was forced to withdraw to more advantageous positions due to a numerically superior enemy force. During the withdrawal, Corporal Felts, unmindful of the risk involved, voluntarily remained behind and placed his machine gun in an exposed position. From this point he employed an accurate and effective fire on the onrushing hostile forces, inflicting numerous casualties upon them. Despite the intense enemy counterfire, Corporal Felts maintained his position until his unit had safely withdrawn. His courageous actions were highly responsible for his unit being able to withdraw with a minimum of casualties. The gallantry in action and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Corporal Felts on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
