The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Corps of Engineers) Avron H. Edelman (ASN: 0-966200), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 10th Engineer Combat Battalion, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 3 June 1951, near Song’ jong, Korea, although exposed to intense hostile machine gun and mortar fire, Lieutenant Edelman and a detachment from his platoon managed to secure a rope across the Hant’ an River to facilitate an infantry crossing. Lieutenant Edelman then voluntarily remained in the water for several hours to assist the infantrymen in effecting a crossing and to aid in the evacuation of the wounded. Lieutenant Edelman’s gallant actions reflects great credit upon himself and are in keeping with the esteemed traditions of the military service.
