Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 207 (June 21, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal [then Private First Class] Robert L. Davis, Jr. (ASN: ER-52025170), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 25 May 1951, in the vicinity of Hwagnu-jonsk, Korea. Company L was attacking a high hill on the route to Hyon-ni and was engaged in a hard and bitter fight for the objective. Corporal Davis, a squad leader, gallantry led his men to the top of the hill, arriving there with a minimum of delay end without incurring any casualties, although the squad was heavily engaged with the enemy throughout the assault. After the squad was on the objective and the enemy was still fighting on the reverse slope, Corporal Davis moved into the field of fire and recovered wounded comrades from the danger area on three separate occasions. He completely disregarded the terrific hail of enemy fire falling through the area to assist his wounded comrades. The gallantry and selfless devotion to his comrades demonstrated by Corporal Davis reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
