The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Ralph J. Davis (ASN: 60619), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2d Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. When an attack by a large hostile force near Kunu-ri, Korea, on 26 November 1950, necessitated withdrawal of a company, Lieutenant Davis remained to provide covering fire for the displacement. Upon arrival at the new positions, he learned that two other companies of the battalion were running low on ammunition. Obtaining a load of ammunition he delivered it to the companies, thereby enabling them to resist the hostile onslaught. Lieutenant Davis’ valorous initiative and military skill reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the United States Army.
