The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private George W. Davis (ASN: US-51029956), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 14 October 1951 in the vicinity of Mundung-ni, Korea. On this date Company A was in the attack upon a heavily fortified and strategic enemy-held hill. Moving out under a heavy concentration of enemy small arms, automatic weapons, and machine gun fire, Private Davis openly exposed himself as he assaulted the hostile positions. He continued in this fearless manner, destroying several enemy bunkers and inflicting numerous casualties upon the enemy. His courage and disregard for personal safety were great factors in inspiring his comrades and were largely responsible for the successful completion of his unit’s mission. The gallantry in action displayed by Private Davis reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
