The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Jack J. Cirimele (ASN: RA-19327919), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Tank Company, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 1 September 1950 in the vicinity of Changnyong, Korea. On that date he was a tank gunner and had assumed command of a tank and crew when its commander was wounded. Enemy forces in the area had broken through the defenses along the Naktong River and our troops in the vicinity were forced to withdraw. While moving to the rear, Corporal Cirimele dismounted from his tank and, under intense hostile fire, aided several wounded soldiers into his tank. When he found the road blocked by a disabled anti-aircraft firing vehicle he again dismounted from his tank and exposing himself to the heavy enemy fire drove the abandoned vehicle off the road. His courageous action enabled his tank and two others to reach friendly lines and he was directly responsible for saving the lives of several wounded men.
