The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Roy E. Creecy (ASN: 19019937), United States Army, for gallantry in action at Fort Mills, Corregidor, Philippine Islands, on 6 May 1942. When the positions of Battery C, 60th Coast Artillery (Anti-Aircraft) Regiment, were subjected to an intense artillery bombardment and numerous casualties resulted, Private Creecy gallantly went to the aid of the wounded. Repeatedly exposing himself to the enemy barrage and under threat of bombing by hostile aircraft overhead, he evacuated his wounded comrades to shelter and treatment. Private Creecy’s inspiring courage under concentrated fire, and his unfailing devotion to duty reflect the highest traditions of the Military Service.
