The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant Raymond I. Coleman (ASN: RA-33746084), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2d Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 26 November 1950, near Kunu-ri, Korea, Master Sergeant Coleman’s battalion was under heavy attack by a numerically superior hostile force. When enemy elements infiltrated to the rear of the position, he organized a small group of riflemen and led them in an attack. Although constantly exposed to close proximity small arms fire, he calmly moved throughout the area directing effective counter-fire and so inspired his men by his resolute leadership that they held their ground until the enemy were forced to withdraw. Master Sergeant Coleman’s valorous actions reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
