Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 726 (November 16, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal John C. Clark (ASN: RA-14398155), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 8 October 1951 in the vicinity of Sadanggol, Korea. On this date, during an attack on strategic enemy-held positions, Company G was halted by intense hostile fire. Corporal Clark, with complete disregard for his personal safety, continued in the advance encouraging his men to follow. Nearing the objective he was severely wounded but refused to be evacuated. Remaining with his men, he courageously led them in the assault until hostile resistance was completely disrupted and the hill secured. Only after he had directed his men in preparing defensive positions against a possible enemy counterattack, did he consent to medical treatment. The gallantry in action and outstanding devotion to duty displayed by Corporal Clark on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
