Department of the Army, General Orders No. 55 (December 30, 1949)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Frank Camp, Jr., United States Army, for gallantry in action on 8 October 1944, at Verlantenheide, Germany. With total disregard for personal safety and with unusual determination, courage, and level-headedness, he advanced single-handedly, while in a severely wounded condition, over 100 yards of open terrain to pin down a machine gun nest and a squad of German riflemen until his platoon leader and section sergeant could join him to take prisoner those who had not been killed. Sergeant Camp’s heroic act resulted in a route being opened by which his platoon could advance and was an inspiration to his comrades.
