The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private Eddie Connelly (ASN: 20737882), United States Army, for heroism while serving with the 35th Infantry Division in the vicinity of ****, Germany, on 20 April 1945. While engaged in destroying an enemy ammunition dump and field pieces, Private Connelly was injured by metal fragments which also seriously injured his squad leader. Disregarding his own painful injury and although faint from loss of blood, he applied a tourniquet, supervised construction of a hasty litter, and assisted in carrying his injured comrade four hundred yards to a waiting vehicle. Private Connelly’s heroic actions were directly responsible for saving his comrade’s life.
