    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private First Class Vernon D. Hutson (ASN: 35702407), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States, while serving with the *** Military Police Company, XII Corps, in action on 3 October 1944 in France. Private First Class Hutson, in full knowledge of the danger of enemy mines, entered a mine field in France in an attempt to rescue an injured French civilian. With the assistance of other American soldiers, he was able to administer proper first aid and care for the severely injured man until further assistance arrived. The courage of Private First Class Hutson reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
