Royden Beebe graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1931. After serving in the Army Air Forces in World War II, he transferred to the U.S. Air Force when it became a separate branch of service in 1947. He retired in 1959 as a U.S. Air Force Major General.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Major General Royden Eugene Beebe, Jr. (ASN: 0-18447), United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States from June 1953 to August 1956, as Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations, Headquarters United States Air Forces in Europe. During this period, General Beebe improved the capabilities and coordinated the efforts of the United States Air Forces in Europe with other allied commands of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. In addition, General Beebe made significant contributions in the areas of contingency planning, assisting in the development of the West German Air Force, and improving the relations between the United States military forces and our allies in the European-Mediterranean area. By his outstanding service in these endeavors, General Beebe has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
