Headquarters, 25th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 124 (February 17, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Freddie V. Bardo (ASN: RA-36437033), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the 77th Engineer Combat Company, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. An infantry battalion attacking in the vicinity of Sangju, Korea, on 27 July 1950, encountered a large enemy mine field which temporarily halted the attack. Although hostile forces were delivering withering crossfire on the field, Sergeant First Class Bardo unhesitatingly moved to an exposed position to assist in removing the mines. Despite direct enemy observation and fire, he continued his hazardous and outstanding devotion to duty. Sergeant First Class Bardo enabled the infantry to resume the attack. His actions reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the United States Army Corps of Engineers.
