The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant [then Corporal] Neile Allen (ASN: RA-19244097), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy near Waegwan, Korea, on 19 September 1950. During an assault crossing of the Naktong River and subsequent attack on the well-fortified enemy emplacements, his unit was subjected to intensive artillery, mortar and small arms fire. Although separated from his unit, Sergeant Allen continued to advance and encountering a small group of soldiers, organized them into a fighting unit. Leading this group he attacked and successfully eliminated two enemy strong points. Continuing his attack, he advanced with his group, although under intensive enemy fire, until the high ground had been taken by the friendly troops and the attack a success. His superior leadership, gallantry and unhesitant devotion to duty reflect the greatest credit upon himself and the United States Infantry.
