The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Maynard K. Bryers (ASN: RA-16317470), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company E, 2d Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 27 November 1950, a rifle company occupying a key position on a ridge in the vicinity of Ipsok, Korea, was subjected to repeated attacks from a strong enemy force. Heedless of the deadly hostile mortar, artillery and automatic weapons fire, Sergeant Bryers manned a machine gun on the left flank of the defense line and directed such devastating counterfire that the enemy force was repulsed. Sergeant Bryers’ courage, grim determination and staunch devotion to duty eliminated a serious threat to the security of the company defenses and are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
