Headquarters, 25th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 28 (January 17, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Walton H. Bryant (ASN: RA-14281321), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company I, 3d Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 20 September 1950, the company with which Private First Class Bryant was serving as assistant squad leader was assigned the mission of securing a ridge in the vicinity of Sobuk-san, Korea. As the company moved forward a machine gunner was wounded, leaving the gun unattended. Although not trained as a machine gunner, he picked up the weapon and moved it to an advantageous position from which he directed such withering fire on the enemy that the mission was accomplished with a minimum of casualties. Private First Class Bryant’s courage, versatility and unremitting devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the United States Army.
