The President of the United States of America, authorized by Executive Order 11046, 24 August 1962, takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Sergeant Douglas Milliken, United States Army, for heroism in connection with military operations against an armed hostile force in Cambodia. Sergeant Milliken distinguished himself while serving as a Squad Leader with Company E, 3d Battalion, 8th Infantry, 4th Infantry Division. On 14 May 1970, the reconnaissance platoon of Company E came in contact with a reinforced enemy squad. Reacting immediately, Sergeant Milliken moved to the front of his squad, courageously exposing himself to enemy fire, and effectively deployed his men. Maneuvering with his squad, Sergeant Milliken was able to force the enemy to withdraw, leaving seven dead behind. Sergeant Milliken’s personal bravery, outstanding leadership and exemplary devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
