The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Kikuichiro Dick Ikehara (ASN: 30100749), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company F, 2d Battalion, 442d Regimental Combat Team, 92d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 15 October 1944, in France. When his platoon was pinned down by enemy machine gun fire, Private First Class Ikehara crawled thirty yards to within fifteen yards of the machine gun nest. Boldly standing up in full view of the foe, he opened fire with his Browning Automatic Rifle, pinning down the hostile machine gun crew while his comrades completed the destruction of the weapon and crew with hand grenades. His courageous action enabled the platoon to advance and complete its mission of clearing a hill. Private First Class Ikehara’s intrepidity was a distinct credit to himself and to the Armed Forces.
