The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Davis K. Hirahara (ASN: 38512283), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company L, 3d Battalion, 442d Regimental Combat Team, 92d Infantry Division, in action on 29 October 1944, in France. When an enemy force entrenched on a hill inflicted heavy casualties on two assaulting companies and his reserve company was committed to action, Staff Sergeant Hirahara noticed that the men were not too eager to attack the enemy strongpoint. Realizing the need of leadership at that moment, he personally led them in a charge up the hill. Inspired by his action his men followed him and neutralized the enemy strongpoint in short order. His courage, initiative and leadership are exemplary and a credit to the United States Army.
