Second Lieutenant Denman and an enlisted man were on patrol with Company D, eb, 66th Infantry, when they were subjected to enemy machine gun and small arms fire. Lieutenant Denman and the enlisted man quickly advanced to the attic of a nearby house to gain observation of the enemy and in so doing drew considerable enemy fire. Second Lieutenant Denman then left the enlisted man and travelled over open ground to contact the executive officer of the infantry battalion and established radio communications with the supporting artillery. Second Lieutenant Denman and the enlisted man then established an observation post in the attic of a house nearer the infantry and directed artillery fire on the enemy machine gun position and suspected enemy observation posts. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Second Lieutenant Denman, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
