The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Earl H. King (ASN: 38571974), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company L, 274th Infantry Regiment, 70th Infantry Division, on 6 March 1945, near Styring Wendel, France. When his comrade was killed while operating the platoon radio, Private First Class King unhesitatingly proceeded to the exposed position and manned the radio. During the continued hostile artillery shelling he was wounded. He refused medical aid in order to maintain communications. His heroic action greatly contributed to the fulfillment of his company’s mission.
