Headquarters, 86th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 27 (1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Colonel (Infantry) Henry Jackson Hunt, Jr., United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Commanding Officer of the 341st Infantry Regiment, 86th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Germany, on 13 April 1945. Colonel Hunt personally led a motorized reinforced combat team in its spectacular advance on ******, Germany. During the movement forward, he directed the destruction of numerous enemy-held road blocks and machine gun positions. At ******, Germany, where extremely stiff resistance was encountered, Colonel Hung, without regard for his personal safety, brilliantly reorganized and restored order to a disorderly column which proceeded through the heavily defended town toward its objective. Later, during the hours of darkness, Colonel Hunt, with his characteristic outstanding display of knowledge, continued his personal leadership of advance elements and expertly led his troops on foot to their objective. Throughout the operations, Colonel Hunt gallantly controlled the combat team. The enviable accomplishments of the combat team may be attributed to his unerring judgment and unswerving devotion to duty. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Colonel Hunt, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
