The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry) Emory S. Hunt, Jr. (ASN: 0-362891), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 259th Infantry Regiment, 65th Infantry Division, in action in Langensalza, Germany, on 6 April 1945. Leading forward elements of his battalion, supported by five medium tanks and four tank destroyers, Colonel Hunt proceeded to the outskirts of Langensalza and there captured one hundred enemy troops. Despite excellent hostile observation and continuous heavy fire from enemy small arms, machine guns and 20-mm. automatic weapons, accompanied by air strafing and bombing, he continued his advances through the town, personally supervised the removal of a road block, and captured the city inflicting approximately 200 casualties on the enemy and capturing 660 men. His outstanding qualities of leadership and directing his troops exemplifies the highest standards of the military service.
