The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Medical Corps) John H. Graham (ASN: 0-381724), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a Medical Officer with the 424th Infantry Regiment, 106th Infantry Division, in action on 28 February 1945, in Germany. Voluntarily accompanying a team assigned the mission of reducing an enemy pillbox, Captain Graham deliberately exposed himself to continuous and accurate machine gun fire to treat three seriously wounded mine casualties. When an aid man became entangled in a web of mine trip wires, Captain Graham, heroically ignoring the imminent danger from the mines and from enemy fire, calmly freed the man. After the pillbox had been taken, Captain Graham, despite heavily concentrated mortar and artillery fire, aided in evacuation of the wounded.
