The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Staff Sergeant William Kevin Roche (AFSN: AF-10610359), United States Air Force, for heroism involving voluntary risk of lie near Box Elder, South Dakota, on 16 November 1965. On that date, Sergeant Roche arrived on the scene of an automobile accident which seriously injured the driver of the vehicle and five other passengers. Sergeant Roche did, without hesitation and regard for his own safety, enter the burning vehicle to pull out the injured and assist in moving them from the scene. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Sergeant Roche reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
