The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Howard V. Parker (ASN: 20938988), United States Army, for gallantry in action on 18 September 1944 at ****, Holland. Private First Class Parker, Assistant Squad Leader, Company B, 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, accompanied by one comrade, assaulted an enemy strongpoint manned by an estimated fifteen men. In the face of intense rifle and machine gun fire, he attacked this position with rifle and hand grenades so aggressively that it was wiped out and the entire enemy force killed or taken prisoner. This courageous conduct and determined performance of duty permitted quick and successful accomplishment of the platoon mission with minimum casualties. The action reflects credit on the soldier and the Airborne Forces of the United States Army.
