The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Staff Sergeant Marshall E. Branzell, Jr. (AFSN: AF-11281587), United States Air Force, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life at Lake Tahoe, Nevada, on 25 June 1961. On that date, Sergeant Branzell noticed two individuals floundering in approximately twenty feet of water. Despite the personal danger involved, Sergeant Branzell immediately swam to their assistance and began to pull them to shore. When another person, who attempted to assist in the rescue experienced difficulty, Sergeant Branzell managed to pull her to the other two victims and succeeded in bringing all three individuals to a place of safety. The courage, determination and humanitarianism displayed by Sergeant Branzell reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
